A Finder-integrated application to provide virtual access to SFTP servers as local disk. In this review, The Daring Fireball says:
For many typical tasks, ExpanDrive is far more convenient and seamless than a standalone client like Interarchy or Transmit. You don’t have to worry about uploading or downloading, it works more like a USB flash drive — you just save and open files directly.
That strikes me as odd because that seamless and local-appearing virtualization of a remote server as local disk is exactly how I always used Interarchy. I virtually never used the traditional upload/download interface, but used the hell out of the FTP and SFTP Disks feature (which looks like it may be called Net Disks now), which provide, effectively, the same access.
Rather than a direct, Finder-integrated filesystem extension,
Interarchy provides a folder which is kept in sync behind the
scenes. You just access the local files, edit them, cd to the
folder and munge them from the command-line, or whatever, and
Interarchy takes care of the transfer in the background. It has
the added feature of allowing you to continue to edit when
you’re offline and sync back up later.
One of the most useful pieces of software I ever bought.
I don’t mean to take away from ExpanDrive, from the review it sounds like a great product. I just had to get that off my chest.
